If it is art, and this album is, then it is capable of assimilating even very distant visions that are produced in the human soul. Album beyond the border: beyond jazz, beyond pop, beyond ambient, beyond electronic music.

Alessandro Tacconi
OFF TOPIC MAGAZINE

Frankly, it’s rare for an album to surprise to this extent…

Fabrizio Ciccarelli
ROMA IN JAZZ

Between consciousness and music, art is the true spirit that moves the world.

Stefano Crippa
IL MANIFESTO

A hypnotic and global sound experience. The album does not limit itself to entertaining but invites us to reflect on the complexity of our time and the salvific role of art.

JAZZ IN FAMILY

Absolutely amazing record. An Italian album worthy of being welcomed and appreciated everywhere: a “revolutionary evolution” of the artistic journey of two notable musicians.

Ernesto D’Angelo
BUSCADERO, Mensile di Musica Rock

Enchanting work. Nine compositions of exquisite musical craftsmanship and uncommon poetic depth.

Elio Bussolino
ROCKERILLA

This is a “leap forward” from which it will be difficult to go back. Hybrid in every way, the quintet’s music is already “contemporary future” and deserves applause and encouragement in the hope of adequate diffusion live and as an album.

Art is (R)EVOLUTION

Dedicated to Pina Bausch, Dino Buzzati, Charles Bukowski, Fela Kuti, David Sylvian, Sebastiao Salgado, and all the Revolutionaries who have allowed the world to Evolve through art.

(R)EVOLUTION is a project by Elisabetta Antonini and Alessandro Contini, featuring original music inspired by minimalism, electronics, sophisticated soundscapes, and ample room for improvisation. Alongside the two voices, the stellar trumpet of Nils Petter Molvaer, the unpredictable atmospheres of Michele Rabbia, and the sound stratifications of Alessandro Gwis take center stage.
The play on words (R)EVOLUTION, combining the words evolution and revolution, reflects the project’s aim to explore the transformative power of art.

The pieces evoke suggestions of ambient, pop, jazz, and experimental music, developing into vast sonic landscapes in continuous fade-out, inspired by the political commitment of Afrobeat activist Fela Kuti and the environmental and social activism of photographer Sebastiao Salgado, the poetic gaze into interiority and anticipation of writers such as Buzzati and Bukowski, and the disconcerting repetitiveness, violence, and propulsion of nature and existence as seen by choreographer Pina Bausch.

A musical transfiguration interpreted by the two voices, here declined in a minimalist, unusual, and original expressiveness, by Molvaer’s trumpet – an exponent of the most interesting Northern European experimentation of the last forty years – by Gwis’s piano and Rabbia’s percussion, always protagonists of the most creative improvised music, with a refined use of electronic instruments by all the members.
To this is added the evocative lyrics of Michael Rosen, specially written on the compositions of Antonini-Contini to represent the Evolution-Revolution binomial and the value of Art as (R)Evolution, an important part of the project, as they provide a literary counterpoint to the music.

The self-titled album, released in autumn 2024, produced for the technical part by the well-known sound engineer Stefano Amerio for ARTESUONO, and produced by Elisabetta Antonini and Alessandro Contini for MusicVox, has been officially presented on November 13th at the Auditorium Parco della Musica within the prestigious program of the Roma Jazz Festival.
